Our History
Established in 1901
Loveland Public Library was established in 1901 by the Women's Improvement Society. The society combed the community for books and set up a small lending library in the home of Anna Duffield, the first Loveland librarian and director. In 1905 the Loveland Town Board accepted responsibility for funding public library service.
Through local fundraising and a donation from Andrew Carnegie, the first library building in Loveland opened in 1908. Located on the corner of 6th Street and Cleveland Avenue, this building would serve the city for 60 years.
In 1968, the Carnegie building was replaced with a larger, two-story facility. However, the growth was still insufficient to handle the growing demand for library services in Loveland.
In September 1987, a new Loveland Public Library building in the Civic Center, east of downtown. The building has undergone many updates, including a second story renovation in 2010 to accommodate the growing demand for technology and library services. This building is the first City of Loveland building to receive LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
