What is Wireless?
Wireless internet uses radio frequencies to transfer
data between an access point and your laptop or wireless device. It is a
way of connecting to a network without having to be physically plugged
into an access port.
How do I connect to the network?
Your device needs to be wireless enabled with a built-in
or added WiFi network card. Loveland Public Library uses the WiFi
standard, 802.11g. Most equipment can automatically detect wireless
networks in the immediate area.
There are no special passwords or encryption to access
the wireless network.
Is the network secure?
The Loveland Public Library wireless network is an open
network. There are no filters or firewalls operating on this network.
Information you send may be viewed or obtained by a third party. We
strongly suggest that you install and use virus protection, encryption
and firewall software on your device before connecting to the Internet.
Users are expected to abide by the Library's Internet
Policies. They can be found online
Here.
Can I print?
Currently there are no printers connected to the
wireless network.
Are there standard settings?
Although settings differ between different types of
wireless network cards, you may try these settings when trying to
connect to the wireless network.
SSID (network name) - 'Any' or 'Loveland Public Library'
WEP - Disable WEP encryption
Mode or Network Type - Access Point
settings for different operating systems.
Can you configure my laptop or device
for me?
Loveland Public Library staff cannot handle or adjust
non-library equipment. Users are expected to configure and troubleshoot
their own equipment.
I have problems connecting with Internet Explorer
In some cases, the proxy server setting is present in your browser. On a
public network like the Library network, it's important that you turn
off proxy servers. The wireless network cannot allow unauthenticated
connections to external proxy servers for security reasons.
To check proxy setting, go under Internet Options, Connections tab,
verify that the Dial-up and Virtual Private Network settings are set to
"Never dial a connection"
Under Local Area Network (LAN) Settings, uncheck each of the following:
"Automatic Detect Settings", "Use Automatic Configuration Script", and
"Use a Proxy Server for your LAN"
How long can we use the wireless network?
We have
not yet implemented any sort of time limit; however, we reserve the
right to do so at a later date.
LPL Wireless Policy
As a service to its users the Loveland Public
Library provides free wireless Internet access. The Library does not
provide technical support for wireless users.
During the initial implementation of the wireless
network the Library can not guarantee bandwidth, connectivity, or
strength of signal. The wireless network is under continual change as we
test new equipment and locations for access points.
This is a wide open network. The wireless network is not secure or
filtered. Like many public wireless hot spots, information is not
encrypted and is subject to electronic eavesdropping by others. Wireless
users are responsible for providing for the security of their own
equipment and electronic communications.
By using the wireless network you are agreeing to comply with this
wireless use policy, as well as the Library's policies concerning use of
the facility and standards of acceptable behavior. Policies are
available for review at
http://www.ci.loveland.co.us/library/policies/LPLpolicies.pdf.
The library exercises no control over and will not be held responsible
for user-supplied equipment or Internet content that users choose to
access or create using their own equipment.
