Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan Requests Using the Colorado Virtual Library:

• First, please check the Loveland Public Library web catalog to be sure we don’t own the item.

• Then go to the Colorado Virtual Library Catalog

• Search by Keyword, Title, or Author and also by type of library.

• Once you find the item you want, click on "Request this item" link.

• Select the LOVELAND PUBLIC LIBRARY from the drop down menu options.

• Enter your library card number (adding a leading zero) and last name.

• Click on the "Log On" tab.

• Click the "I agree, Send Request" tab.

      To check the status of your request:

• You will need to create a MyCVL Login Name & Password.

• Please allow 10 minutes after submission for requests to appear in your CVL request queue.

• You'll need to be logged into CVL with your user name and password.

• Click on "Back To Menu", then "View My Requests".

• When your item arrives at the Loveland Public Library, you will receive notice by mail or email if you have indicated an email address on your library card account.

• The “CVL Help” link at the bottom of the page can provide assistance in narrowing down search results and other helpful navigation skills.
• Make sure you have chosen the Loveland Public Library from the drop down menu when you sign on to your account. (If you are having trouble signing in with your library card call the circulation desk at 962-2586.)
• Requesting an item that is already held in Loveland Public Library’s collection or an item that is not available from the Colorado Virtual Library due to high demand will result in the order going to an “Idle” status. Contact the interlibrary loan staff at 962-2402 for assistance.

Interlibrary Loan Policies/Procedures

• Interlibrary Loan service is available to only holders of current & unrestricted Loveland Public Library cards.
• Only items NOT available at Loveland Public Library may be requested through Interlibrary Loan.
• Newly published items (i.e. in the last 6 months) are often not available because of high levels of demand at the lending libraries.
• You may have up to 3 items at a time on interlibrary loan. 
• Materials available through Interlibrary Loan include: books, CDs, cassette tapes, video cassettes (VHS), DVDs, photocopies & microfilm.
• If an item is available only from an out-of-state source, we must pass a $5 processing fee, postage, and sometimes a lending library fee onto the patron. Requestors must pay the $5 fee before library staff can proceed with the out-of-state request.

FAQ: 

1. How long will it take? Depending on availability, some items may arrive within 7 days; others may take several weeks
2. Would the Loveland Public Library consider purchasing the item? Possibly. Please put in a purchase suggestion.
3. How many items may I request? Up to three (3) interlibrary loan requests may be made at one time.
4. How much does it cost? Most interlibrary loans are done at no direct cost to the patron. Items not available in Colorado incur a $5.00 cost before being requested out-of-state. When they are received return postage must also be paid.
5. What types of items are not available through interlibrary loan? Items in the Loveland Public Library collection, best sellers, newly published items, licensed computer software, entire volumes or issues of periodicals, rare or valuable items and non-circulating (or reference) items.
6. How will I know my item has arrived? You will be notified by mail or email if you have indicated an email address.
7. How long is the loan period? Loan periods vary and are determined by the lending library. When you pick up an item the due date will be indicated.
