Symphony! Music Presentation & Lecture Series

Monday, February 12, 2018 -
6:30pm to 7:30pm

Feb 12 Haydn Symphony 94
This is called the “surprise symphony” --- the surprise comes in the second movement. A relaxed introduction is followed by spritely themes. This symphony will be performed by the Loveland Orchestra on March 2.

Mar 12 Hanson Symphony 2
Howard Hanson was an American composer who was director for 40 years of the Eastman School of Music. This symphony is called “The Romantic” because of its lush melodies.

April 9 Dvorak Symphony 8
This cheerful work adds piccolo and English horn to the usual instrumentation. The second movement brings to mind a calm summer day interrupted by a thunderstorm. This symphony will be performed by the Loveland Orchestra on April 27.

May 14 Beethoven Symphony 9
The last of his symphonies, this one  begins with drama and suspense, and adds vocal soloists and chorus in the last movement singing the famous “Ode to Joy” theme.
