Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.: Challenges to Jim Crow and Poverty
This presentation by Dr. George Stevens, of Loveland’s Martin Luther King Events Committee, acknowledges Dr. King’s recognition of the systemic nature of Jim Crow. He saw the plight of the poor, regardless of race, and linked together housing, education, income, employment and other economic factors. Dr. King employed economic tools such as boycotts, sit-ins, and strikes to convey to organizations the collective buying power of Negroes. A discussion will follow Dr. Stevens’ talk.
